Hi, I’m Kristen

I'm a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist, EMDRIA Certified Therapist, Certified First Responder Counselor, and the founder of Seeking Peace Counseling PLLC. My practice is based in Edmond, Oklahoma but I also see clients virtually that live in Vermont and Virginia.

Being a therapist isn't just a job for me, it's my passion. I love getting to help people heal from what's been haunting them and see them find peace they weren't sure was possible.

If I had to sum up my therapy style in a few words…warm, relaxed, direct, and deep. And it matches the approaches I use to help people heal. I love combining EMDR Therapy and IFS-informed parts work to get to the wounds and pain deep below the surface. I always have an attachment-informed lens - relationships are where the wounds happen — and where the healing happens too. I’ll always tell you the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable. And yes, expect some sarcasm and dark humor, plus my dumpster fire zen garden on the shelf and a basket of fidgets.

Who I am Outside of Work

I’m a Colorado native who somehow ended up in Oklahoma, and I love it here (just not the wind and humidity). I’m a proud police wife, and mom to 2 boys. I’m the quintessential millennial who decided to become an endurance runner in her mid-30s. I’m immensely proud of the 2 marathons I’ve completed, and I’ve got my eye on an ultra-marathon one day. I love going camping with my family and exploring the wilderness. I can recite nearly every episode from The Office, and I’m usually watching it on repeat. I’m always buying books I’ll read one day, and forgetting to water the plants outside.

I also host a podcast called Let’s Sit With This! We talk about hard things in a way that actually makes sense so you can heal old hurts and grow into someone you’re proud of. The episodes are short and to the point (who has 2 hours to listen to an episode), but you still get my down-to-earth clinical perspective to hopefully help you think about things differently and feel less alone.

A Note for First Responders & Their Families

I am the proud wife of a military veteran and law enforcement officer. I hold a deep respect for those who protect and serve our communities and country — and an equally deep understanding of what that life demands, and how it impacts families.

I’ve spent Christmas Day alone. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve been mid-sentence on the phone when dispatch keyed up, and the phone call getting cut abruptly short. I understand the interruptions, the adrenaline, the waiting, the fear, and the emotional whiplash that’s not seen but certainly felt.

This is a place where you don’t have to edit your story, soften the details, censor your language, or pretend you’re fine. There is no call, no scene, no deployment that will be “too much” for me — I’ve likely heard versions of it before. Whether you wear the uniform or love someone who does, you are welcome here - because I live this life too. LEARN MORE

Law enforcement is always welcome to attend sessions in full uniform, including duty equipment.

How I Work

Every person who comes to me starts in a different place — but the work tends to follow a natural path.

We start by building trust — because I work from an attachment-informed lens, and I believe healing happens in relationship. So much of what we're untangling was shaped in relationship too, which means the connection we build here matters just as much as any technique. Once we have that foundation and a well-rounded picture of your life — past and present — we get to work.

If things feel like they're on fire when you start, we work there first. From a trauma-integrated perspective, I weave in skills and principles from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to build the coping skills, communication tools, boundary setting, and decision-making you need to stabilize and feel more in control of your day-to-day life.

Then we go deeper. This is where EMDR and IFS-informed parts work come in — healing what's been weighing you down at the nervous system level, and working with the parts of you that are holding pain and protecting you. We bring in somatic techniques too, so the healing isn't just talked about, it's felt in the body.

My clients tend to do deep work. Most stay anywhere from one to three years, some shorter, some longer. The timeline is always yours.

And my goal from day one is that eventually you won't need therapy anymore.
