Hi, I’m Kristen

I'm a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist, EMDRIA Certified Therapist, Certified First Responder Counselor, and the founder of Seeking Peace Counseling PLLC.

I love getting to walk with people as they heal from what weighs them down — and see the change as they live their lives with more peace, confidence, and joy.

My office feels more like a living room than a therapy room. Cozy furniture, a comfortable couch, a tiny dumpster fire zen garden on the shelf. I want you to walk in and feel like you can breathe a little easier.

A Little More About Me

I'm a Colorado native who ended up in Oklahoma and made peace with it. I’m a police wife and mom to two rambunctious boys, so my life outside of work is always busy. After spending the first 34 years of my life not running, I decided to run two marathons — and have found how cool it is to achieve something that felt impossible. I love to bake, I almost always feel like I forgot something, and even though I'm lactose intolerant, chips and queso are my favorite food. I’ve re-watched The Office so many times, I can nearly quote whole episodes.

I also host Let's Sit With This — a podcast where we talk about hard things in ways that actually make sense. Less therapy session, more campfire chat. I hope you check it out!

A Note for First Responders & Their Families

I am the proud wife of a military veteran and law enforcement officer. I hold a deep respect for those who protect and serve — and an equally deep understanding of what that life demands, and how it impacts families.

I’ve spent Christmas Day alone. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve been mid-sentence on the phone when dispatch keyed up, and the phone call getting cut abruptly short. I understand the interruptions, the adrenaline, the waiting, the fear, and the emotional whiplash that often never gets named.

This is a space where you don’t have to edit your story, soften the details, censor your language, or pretend you’re fine. There is no call, no scene, no deployment that will be “too much” for me — I’ve likely heard versions of it before. Whether you wear the uniform or love someone who does, you are welcome here with respect and absolutely no judgment, because I live this life too.

Law enforcement is always welcome to attend sessions in full uniform, including duty equipment.

Why I Do This Work

I have immense respect for people who do the hard work of healing — because I've been the client too. I know how hard it is to feel what you've been avoiding. And I know how life changing it is to come out the other side.

I believe the world becomes a better place when we can be who we needed when we were younger. That's why I do this.

This job really is my calling.

Faith & Spirituality

My Christian faith forms the basis for how I care for others — with hope, compassion, and dignity.

For clients who want Christian counseling, I'm grateful to integrate faith into our work in a way that feels comfortable and meaningful to you.

And if that's not you, you are equally welcome here. I work with clients from a wide range of beliefs and honor each person's values and worldview. I never push any belief on anyone. Your goals, your story, and your comfort always guide the process.

How I Work

Every person who comes to me starts in a different place — but the work tends to follow a natural path.

We start by building trust and getting a full picture of your life — past and present. If things feel like they're on fire right now, we work there first. Building the coping skills, communication tools, boundary setting, and decision making skills you need to stabilize and feel more in control of your day to day life.

Then we go deeper. Based on your goals we work through the layers — healing what's been weighing you down, building skills, and helping you move forward in ways that feel aligned with who you want to be.

My clients tend to do deep work. Most stay anywhere from one to three years, some shorter, some longer. The timeline is always yours.

And my goal from day one is that eventually you won't need therapy anymore. That's not a loss — that's the whole point.

My approach integrates EMDR, parts work, somatic techniques, and attachment-based therapy. You can learn more about how I use these on my specialty pages.
