Hi, I’m Kristen

I’m a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist (LMFT), EMDRIA Certified Therapist, and the founder of Seeking Peace Counseling PLLC. I work with adults who are carrying more than they let on — the quiet, heavy kind of pain that doesn’t always have clean words.

Many of the people I work with have survived on grit, dark humor, competence, and sheer willpower. On the outside, things “work.” On the inside, it can feel exhausting, overwhelming, or painfully disconnected.

In my office, therapy feels like a real conversation — not a performance. Yes, there’s structure and clinical grounding. There’s also room for honest language, nervous laughter, and the moments that don’t fit neatly into a treatment plan. I keep fidgets on the table, a tiny dumpster-fire zen garden on the shelf, and a couch that’s actually comfortable — because healing doesn’t have to be sterile to be deeply effective.

I won’t ask you to bare your soul on day one. And I won’t promise a quick fix. What I offer is a steady, grounded space where you don’t have to filter your words or pretend you’re fine. We’ll go at your pace — with depth, respect, and the kind of work that actually shifts what’s been stuck.

Whatever you’re wrestling with, we’ll figure it out together. You don’t have to carry it all on your own anymore.

A Bit About Me

I’m a Colorado native turned Oklahoman, a wife, and a mom of two. I love long runs (two marathons so far), baking, and re-watching comfort shows — The Office is top tier, with Schitt’s Creek and Brooklyn Nine-Nine close behind. My to-be-read pile is wildly ambitious, I almost always feel like I forgot something on my to-do list, and even though I’m lactose intolerant, chips and queso still count as a legitimate food group.

I also host the Let’s Sit With This podcast — a space to talk about the hard stuff and practice real skills that actually help.

Being a therapist isn’t just what I do — it’s a calling. It’s an honor to sit with people in the messiest, bravest parts of healing. If you’re ready to carry things differently, I’d be honored to walk with you.

A Note for First Responders & Their Families

I am the proud wife of a military veteran and law enforcement officer. I hold a deep respect for those who protect and serve — and an equally deep understanding of what that life asks of individuals and families.

I’ve spent Christmas Day alone. I’ve been mid-sentence on the phone when dispatch keyed up. I understand the interruptions, the adrenaline, the waiting, the fear, and the emotional whiplash that often never gets named.

This is a space where you don’t have to edit your story, soften the details, censor your language, or pretend you’re fine. There is no call, no scene, no deployment that will be “too much” for me — I’ve likely heard versions of it before. Whether you wear the uniform or love someone who does, you are welcome here with respect, cultural competence, and absolutely no judgment.

Law enforcement is always welcome to attend sessions in full uniform, including duty equipment.

What I Work With

I help adults work through the experiences that often stay unspoken — the stress no one sees, the pain that lingers, the patterns that don’t seem to shift no matter how hard you try.

Some of the areas I frequently support include:

  • Trauma — whether from a single event or a lifetime of “it wasn’t that bad” experiences

  • Childhood emotional neglect or abuse

  • Sexual abuse or assault

  • Anxiety that won’t shut off — racing thoughts, panic, intrusive worries, or compulsive behaviors

  • Grief that doesn’t follow a script — people, relationships, identities, or futures that never materialized

  • Career-related trauma and cumulative stress, especially for first responders and military

  • Over-functioning, perfectionism, and burnout

  • Emotional numbness or shutdown

  • Relationship struggles shaped by old survival patterns

You don’t need perfect language to begin. If something in you knows it’s time for change, that’s enough to start.

How I Help

What This Work Looks Like

You don’t need someone to sugar-coat what you already know — something isn’t working. This is a space to get to the root of it with real tools, steady support, and a clear path forward.

Reprocessing Trauma & Breaking the Cycle

When the past keeps showing up in the present, we work with it directly and at your pace. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help your brain process what it couldn’t fully resolve at the time.

This isn’t about reliving the worst moments.
It’s about helping your nervous system stop reacting as if the danger is still happening.

I also integrate somatic and Polyvagal-informed approaches to shift the body out of chronic survival mode. If you live on edge, feel shut down, or stay braced for impact, this work helps restore safety from the inside out.

Untangling Anxiety, Panic & Perfectionism

If your mind is always scanning, planning, fixing, and second-guessing, we work with that pattern at its roots. This is not positive thinking or “just relax.” It’s learning how to regulate your system so anxiety no longer runs the show.

Getting Clear on Boundaries, Emotions & Inner Conflict

Many people were never taught how to recognize limits, name needs, or stay connected to their emotional world. Through parts work and nervous system regulation, we build these skills in a grounded, practical way.

This Isn’t About Fixing You

Because you’re not broken.

You’re wired to survive — and you’ve likely done that remarkably well. But survival mode was never meant to be your permanent address.

This work is about building something different:
Not perfection.
Not performance.
Just a life that feels more steady, more connected, and more honest.
