Hi, I’m Kristen!
I’m a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist (LMFT), EMDRIA Certified Therapist, and the founder of Seeking Peace Counseling PLLC. I work with adults who are carrying more than they let on — the quiet, heavy kind of pain that doesn’t always have words. If you’ve been surviving on grit, dark humor, and sheer willpower, you’re not alone.
In my office, therapy feels like a real conversation — not a performance. Yes, we’ll look at the feelings wheel. But we’ll also laugh at sarcastic jokes, and if you send me a meme, I’ll definitely appreciate it. I keep fidgets on the table, a tiny dumpster fire zen garden on the shelf, and a comfy couch ready for whatever the day brings — because healing doesn’t have to be stiff or scripted.
I won’t ask you to bare your soul on day one. And I won’t promise a quick fix. What I will offer is a steady, grounded space where you don’t have to filter your words or pretend you're fine. We'll go at your pace — gently, respectfully, and with the kind of deep work that actually helps shift what’s been stuck.
Whatever you’re wrestling with, we’ll figure it out together. You don’t have to carry it all on your own anymore.
A Bit About Me
I’m a Colorado native turned Oklahoman, a wife, and a mom of two. I love long runs (I’ve run two marathons so far!), baking, and re-watching my favorite comfort shows — The Office is top tier, but Schitt’s Creek and Brooklyn Nine-Nine are close behind. My to-be-read pile is out of control, I always feel like I forgot to put something on my to-do list, and even though I’m lactose intolerant, chips and queso still count as a food group.
I also host the Let’s Sit With This podcast — where we talk about the hard stuff and practice real skills that actually help.
Being a therapist isn’t just a job to me — it’s a calling. It’s an honor to walk alongside people doing the work of healing. If you’re ready to carry things differently, I’d be honored to walk with you.
I am the proud wife to a military veteran and law enforcement officer. I have a deep respect for those who protect and serve our communities and our country, and I have a deep passion for serving the communities I consider family.
I have a personal understanding of the challenges that first responders and their families face. I’ve celebrated Christmas Day in a patrol car and by myself. I know far too well being mid-sentence of a story, hearing dispatch key up and knowing the phone call has to quickly end. I know what the weight of the uniform does to families.
This is a space where you don’t have to edit your story, hold back your dark humor, censor your language, or pretend you’re fine. There is no call, no scene, no deployment that will be too shocking, too overwhelming for me - I’ve likely already heard something very similar. Whether you wear the uniform or love someone who does, I’m here to support the messy, complicated, and often silent parts of your experience—with respect, cultural competence, and absolutely no judgment.
Law Enforcement is always welcome to come in full uniform (gun and duty equipment included).
What I Work With
I help adults work through the stuff that doesn’t always get talked about — the stress no one sees, the pain that won’t go away, the patterns you can’t seem to shake. Here are some of the struggles I often support:
Trauma — whether it’s something big you remember clearly, or a long buildup of things you were told “weren’t that bad”
Childhood neglect or emotional abuse — growing up without safety, consistency, or the space to be fully yourself
Sexual abuse or assault — including childhood experiences you’ve carried alone for too long
Anxiety that won’t shut off — racing thoughts, panic, intrusive worries, or rituals that feel out of control
Grief that doesn’t fit the script — the loss of a person, a relationship, a version of your life that didn’t turn out how you hoped
Stress from careers that demand everything — especially for first responders, military, or those in investigative and forensic roles
Over-functioning and burnout — constantly performing, achieving, or fixing, with no space to fall apart
Emotional numbness or shutdown — going through the motions, but feeling disconnected from yourself or others
Relationship struggles — especially when old wounds or survival patterns keep showing up
You don’t have to have the “right” words. If something in you knows it’s time for change, we can start there.
How I Help
What This Work Looks Like
You don’t need someone to sugarcoat what you already know — something isn’t working. Maybe it’s trauma that won’t stay buried, anxiety that never shuts off, or old patterns that keep running the show. This is a space to get to the root of it — with real tools, steady support, and a clear path forward.
Reprocessing Trauma & Breaking the Cycle
When the past keeps showing up in your present, we’ll work with it — directly and at your pace. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help your brain process what it couldn’t fully handle at the time, so you can move forward without feeling hijacked by old pain or survival responses. This isn’t about reliving the worst moments — it’s about helping your system stop reacting like it’s still stuck in them.
I also integrate somatic practices and Polyvagal-informed approaches to help you regulate your nervous system. If you're always on edge, numb, or bracing for impact, this helps you shift from survival mode into a state where actual change can happen.
Untangling Anxiety, Panic & Perfectionism
If your brain’s always spinning — planning, fixing, calculating, second-guessing — we’ll work on that too. Together we’ll identify what’s driving the pressure and learn ways to quiet the inner noise. This isn’t about positive thinking or “just relaxing” — it’s about building practical, lasting tools to respond differently when anxiety shows up.
Getting Clear on Boundaries, Emotions & Inner Conflict
A lot of people never learned how to name their limits or stay connected to what they feel. If that’s you, we’ll build from the ground up. We’ll develop tools for self-regulation, explore inner conflicts with Parts Work, and help you reconnect with the parts of yourself that have been working overtime to hold it all together.
This Isn’t About Fixing You
Because you’re not broken. You’re wired to survive — and you’ve done that well, probably for a long time. But survival mode can’t be your permanent address.
This work is about helping you build something different: not perfection, not performance — just a life that feels more steady, connected, and honest.
